Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) is the nation’s leading organization representing consumers with hearing loss. HLAA offers programs and events designed to open the world of communication to people with hearing loss by providing information, education, support, and advocacy.

The convention highlights the latest technology and services, and offers dozens of educational workshops and informational panels and discussions, including one featuring VITAC’s own Heather York, vice president, marketing and government affairs.

Heather and co-presenter Larry Goldberg, senior director of accessible media at Verizon, will host a “Captioning: Ask Me Anything” session on Saturday, June 22, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The session will discuss a variety of captioning topics, including captioning requirements, the growing demand for captions and accessibility, the different ways to caption for broadcast, web, and mobile devices, and automatic speech recognition programs, among others.

The 2019 HLAA convention, which also celebrates the organization’s 40th anniversary, will be held at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center from June 20-23.
