Spotlight on Iowa… home to many VITAC Captioners

What comes to mind when you think of the state of Iowa?

Perhaps you think of the capital, Des Moines… or picture Quaker Oats, the world’s largest cereal company… or imagine riding Iowa’s only operating antique carousel in Story City… or recall the Iowa State Fair’s historic “Butter Cow” scuplture.

Not only is Iowa known for these remarkable places, but it is also a home-away-from-home for VITAC! This week, we welcomed our thirteenth Iowa-based captioner to our team.

Karla Ray, a VITAC Realtime Captioner since 2002, is Iowa born and raised and enjoys working for our Pittsburgh-based company. Not only does she love, “being able to provide an invaluable service to those who are deaf and hard of hearing from the comfort of my home with flexible hours,” but she also commends how easy it is to receive support.

Karla believes that local schools make Iowa a “captioning hot spot” since it provides, “students with the knowledge and skills they need to become a professional in the industry,” not to mention, “Iowans’ superb work ethic.”

Regardless of the path that brings Iowa employess to VITAC, we’re glad to have such great people on our team. Here’s to the Hawkeye State!
