Scene from Elf Pets: A Fox Cub's Christmas showing a white fox cub with captions on the screenThe holidays are a time for traditions, from sharing in baking Mom’s famous sugar cookies to taking in the holiday lights to visiting with relatives near and far. And, for many, it’s also a time when a certain little holiday guest decked out in a red and white suit and pointy hat appears in different places around the home.

The Lumistella Company, home of The Elf on the Shelf, the American Council of the Blind (ACB), and VITAC once again are proud to offer a special audio described production of the animated holiday special, Elf Pets: A Fox Cub’s Christmas Tale on ACB Radio. The broadcast will feature live phone calls from listeners and a visit from Santa himself, among other treats.

Audio description is an added soundtrack that describes visual images for the benefit of people who are blind or have low vision. The description track can be found on a secondary audio channel available on most television sets and accessible through the television’s menu.

As an example, the audio described broadcast of Elf Pets: A Fox Cub’s Christmas Tale opens with a narration of the credits and description of the background imagery: “Scout Elf Productions Presents… blue sky with light snow and white clouds…in text ‘Elf Pets, a Fox Cub’s Christmas Tale’…a snowy owl swoops by…”

The Elf on the Shelf and Elf Pets have become beloved holiday traditions for many, appearing in a wide variety of popular books, toys, and videos, and loved by children of all ages all around the world.

“The Lumistella Company’s mission is to create joyful moments at Christmastime for all families,” says Christa Pitts, co-CEO of The Lumistella Company. “We are proud to partner with the American Council of the Blind and VITAC to deliver our entertainment content to audiences in a new way.”

VITAC has worked with The Lumistella Company and its accompanying products since 2018, and we are proud to provide accessible media services for their animated specials. This partnership has provided closed captioning, Spanish and French translation, and audio description services ensuring holiday cheer is accessible to everyone.
